The original location of the Hyderabad city was in the southern part of the River Musi. This beautiful city was built to display the grandeur and splendor of the empire of the Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah. Every nook and corner of this city reflected the governing style and the aura of the Sultan. With time, the city has stretched its boundaries and today it has extended across the river toward the North, Eastward as well as in the Western direction. The area which is in the southern part of the Hyderabad is referred to as the old city by the dwellers of this city. The center of the old city is the magnificent Charminar. Charminar is not only an exquisite work of architecture but also is an important landmark and cultural representation of the city. It would not be hyperbolic to say that Charminar is the heart and soul of the city. The Charminar has four minarets and a mosque at the terrace and is considered to be as important to the city as the Arc de Triomphe is to Paris.

The River Musi is a very quiet and calm river for most of the year. When the monsoon comes and the gates of Ganipet are opened, the river gains full

vigor and distinctly separates the city in to the Old City and the New City. Like the South shore, the North is also an Important Historic Sight. While the North symbolizes the grandeur of the Sultans, the Northern part can boast about being testimony of the expansion done by Asaf Jahis who came after the Sultans.

In addition to Charminar, Hyderabad city is also home to numerous places of historic importance and tourist attractions. Among all the other prominent edifices,

the most important after the Charminar is probably the Golconda Fort which known to be one of the oldest Fortress Complexes in India and its history ranges back to as early as the 13th century.

The Qutub Shahi tombs are also of significant importance. These tombs are almost in the same vicinity of the Golconda Fort and are a place where most of the Qutub Shahi dynasty rests in peace.

While planning to visit Hyderabad one may also find a lot of interest in the Birla Mandir, the Tank Bund, the Public Gardens which are located
